Heuristic Analysis: detects and fixes usability problems

What is a Heuristic Analysis?

Heuristic analysis is an expert evaluation of the usability of a digital interface based on the heuristic principles of Jakob Nielsen and other UX good practices. This process allows us to detect errors in navigation, interaction and design that affect the user experience.

This type of evaluation is based on 10 heuristic principles of usability:

  • System Status Visibility → Inform the user about what is happening at any time.
  • Concordance between the system and the real world → Use a language and family design for the user, based on an example he knows.
  • User control and freedom → Allow you to undo actions easily, so you feel free to try or make mistakes.
  • Consistency and standards → Maintaining consistency in design elements, thus the learning curve is always lower.
  • Error Prevention → Designing to avoid confusion and mistakes, more information before action always helps not to make the mistake.
  • Recognition instead of remembrance → Facilitate the identification of options effortlessly.
  • Flexibility and efficiency of use → Allow shortcuts for advanced users.
  • Aesthetic and minimalist design → Do not overload the interface with unnecessary information.
  • Helps in the recognition and recovery of errors → Clear messages to fix problems.
  • Assistance and accessible documentation → Provide assistance where necessary.

When do you need a heuristic analysis?

Your digital product has conversion issues → If users leave without completing key actions, there may be barriers to usability.
You want to optimise the user experience → A heuristic evaluation helps you detect friction points before conducting tests with users.
You’re redesigning an application → Before investing in change, it’s key to identify what works and what needs to be improved.

Our Heuristic Evaluation Process

01

Product analysis and definition of objectives

Evaluating your digital app or platform, defining key usability goals and user experience.

02

Evaluation based on heuristic principles

Analysing each interface according to Nielsen’s 10 heuristic principles, identifying problems and opportunities for improvement.

03

Problem Detection and Classification

Prioritising the findings according to their impact on the user experience: Critical errors → Must be corrected immediately. Moderate problems → Impact usability, but do not prevent use. Recommended improvements → Potential optimisations for a more fluid experience.

04

Delivery of Report and Recommendations for Action

Providing a detailed report with findings, visual examples and concrete solutions to improve usability and navigation.

Benefits of performing a heuristic analysis

  • Identify problems before they affect users → We detect usability errors before launch or in early stages of the product.
  • Reduce costs and development time → Correcting problems in the design phase is cheaper than doing it after development.
  • Improves conversion and retention → An intuitive and fluid product creates trust and loyalty.
  • Optimises accessibility and usability → Benefits all users, including people with special needs.
  • Strengthens design consistency → Maintaining a standard and predictable interface improves overall experience.
