Description of the project
Batura, together with Basoekin as leader and Baskegur, are working on the cooperation project “Adaptation of sustainable forest management to new generations” (BasoApp), a project approved in July 2022 co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development EAFRD and the Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment of the Basque Government.
We consider this project fundamental in the sector to encourage, bring closer and facilitate the generational change in Sustainable Forest Management in the Basque Country, through new technologies. It is a multiannual project of cooperation between the technological part through BATURA and the forest-timber sector of the Basque Country through Baskegur and Basoekin, with the support and participation of the Associations of Forestalists of Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa.
Objectives
Given the importance of forests to the planet, Sustainable Forest Management is essential to ensure that society’s demands do not compromise future resources. However, this increasingly urban society has given way to an ageing rural environment, without clear regeneration and where land management is complicated. This lack of generational change has a negative impact on forest management, which is why this project aims to innovate in formulas that encourage and facilitate generational change in Sustainable Forest Management.
The objective of the project is the development of a Digital Forest Logbook that allows people who own forest resources to optimize the management processes of their farms in order to certify the quality of these resources. The digital notebook will consist of aMobile App as a digital tool that facilitates and speeds up the access to the information of its Forest Plans for Sustainable Management, as well as the communication of the actions carried out, modifications and incidents throughout the life period of each Plan.
