Research Need
In the context of the contemporary challenges of extensive livestock farming in Europe and specifically in Spain, the ARTZA-IA project emerges as an innovative solution to the lack of profitability of the sector.
The aspects for improvement are the scarcity of time, the increasing competitiveness of the market and the increase in production costs exacerbated by global economic factors.
This Research and Development (R+D+i) project has as its primary purpose the conception, development and validation of an AUTONOMOUS extensive livestock management platform. This takes advantage of the information from multispectral optical satellites to enhance the productivity and efficiency of livestock farms. In this way, it improves the quality of life of livestock farmers and contributes to the revitalization of the attractiveness of the primary sector for present and future generations.
Business solution
The proposed platform, called PAPPSTOR, integrates a virtual fencing collar with real-time geolocation and is supported by an animal health and behavior monitoring system using sensors such as an accelerometer.
Combining this with high spatial resolution data obtained by polar orbit satellites, the platform allows farmers to exhaustively monitor the available grass, thus optimizing both the grass resource for feeding their animals (through rotational grazing) and enhancing the values of the territory and the landscape.
Augmented reality technology and predictive climate analyzes will generate information that will be displayed in a friendly and efficient interface for the management of grazable resources and animal welfare.
As a result of the project, a tool will be developed that will provide significant advances in terms of profitability and competitiveness of the livestock sector, such as increasing self-sufficiency in livestock farms, promoting the circular economy and enhancing the quality of the local meat product.
In addition, it is expected that the project will have a positive impact on the management of the territory and the self-esteem of ranchers, thus strengthening the rural socioeconomic fabric.
Mobile solution
The main technical objective of the ARTZAIA project consists of the research and development of an integrated Technological Platform that uses satellite data and smart sensors in real time for knowledge by applying Deep learning techniques of the state of the livestock and the deductive interpretation by AI of the management of rotational grazing.
Within the entire process, the mobile phone intervenes by obtaining photographs of the grass within Pappstor, which allow us to validate that the information generated by the satellites on the platform is correct. In this way, Artificial Intelligence is also fed to make it increasingly precise.
Once we finish the project, we will improve livestock management and autonomous grazing thanks to technology.
